News - Southern Brazil floods’ death toll nears 80

The authorities have confirmed that the death toll in the floods in southern Brazil has reached 78. And the number of injured has reached 175, according to the civil defense service of state of Rio Grande do Sul, the G1 portal reported. Also, 105 people are considered missing. More than 844 thousand inhabitants were affected by the heavy rains and the storm, and this natural disaster caused damage to 341 municipalities. Heavy rains had started in southern Brazil at the beginning of the past week. Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva had visited the affected region.
