News - Flooding in Libya leaves at least 11 300 people dead

Floods that occurred on September 10 destroyed large parts of the city of Derna in the east of the country. According to BBC’s film crew that arrived in Derna, the city center was in full swing as rescue workers, ambulance crews and forensic experts worked to identify the dead. However, international humanitarian organizations have not yet arrived at the site. Water contaminated by sewage will become a major problem, Libya's eastern government says. Calls have been made for the full evacuation of survivors from Derna because the provision of clean water, electricity, medicine, and other essential supplies is extremely challenging.
