At Thursday's Cabinet session, the Armenian government made an addition to its decision to establish an Armenian consulate in Iran. With this draft decision, it is proposed to open a consulate general of Armenia in Tabriz, Iran. In the explanation of this decision, it is noted that in 2022, the Prime Minister of Armenia and the President of Iran reached an agreement to increase the amount of trade between the two countries to one and then to three billion US dollars. And the activities of the Consulate General of Armenia in Tabriz can contribute to the development of Armenia-Iran economic relations. Since October 2022, the Consulate General of Iran has been operating in Kapan, Armenia, and therefore the establishment of the Consulate General of Armenia in Tabriz, in East Azerbaijan Province of Iran, will ensure the implementation of the principle of reciprocity. Iran's East Azerbaijan Province borders Armenia's Syunik Province, and the establishment of the Consulate General of Armenia in Tabriz will greatly contribute to the further development of commercial, sociocultural, interpersonal, and touristic communication between the two administrative territorial units. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia considers the establishment of the Consulate General of Armenia in Tabriz expedient, which is consistent with Armenia's foreign policy and interests.
