News - US blocks Security Council recognition of Palestine as full UN member

The US used its veto power at the United Nations (UN) Security Council and blocked Algeria's draft resolution on recognizing Palestine as a full member of this international organization. Twelve Security Council members, including Russia and China, voted in favor of the document accepting Palestine as a full member of the UN, Switzerland and the UK abstained, while the US opposed the draft resolution. Palestine currently a “nonmember observer state” in the United Nations.
