Verbal hearings in the Armenia vs. Azerbaijan lawsuit continue Tuesday at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) of the United Nations. Until Friday, the ICJ will hear the lawsuit of the Armenian party in two phases. The position of Armenia is being presented by Yeghishe Kirakosyan, the representative of the country on international legal affair,. The hearings kicked off Monday with objections from the Azerbaijani party. According to them, the lawsuit filed by Armenia should be rejected because it is not under the jurisdiction of the ICJ. In addition to the ICJ, Armenia has filed four other lawsuits against Azerbaijan to the European Court. The first refers to the 44-day war in 2020 and the Azerbaijani violations that followed it, the second—to the illegal Azerbaijani trials of Armenians captured at various phases, the third—to the armed presence of Azerbaijanis in the sovereign territory of Armenia and the resulting human rights violations, and the fourth—to the Azerbaijani violations in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh); this includes the forcible deportation of Artsakh Armenians.
