Pashinyan to Tokayev: Armenia's Crossroads of Peace project can radically change situation in region

by Lilit April 15, 2024

At the meeting with the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, we also discussed the situation related to ensuring security and stability in the South Caucasus. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said this during joint statements with visiting Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on Monday. Pashinyan noted as follows, in particular: "I presented my colleague with the latest developments in the negotiations with Azerbaijan, reaffirming the readiness of the Armenian government to establish stable and lasting peace in the region, based on the three principles already agreed between Armenia and Azerbaijan. They are the mutual recognition of territorial integrity and the implementation of the Armenia-Azerbaijan border delimitation process, based on the principles of the declaration adopted in the city of Almaty, Kazakhstan on December 21, 1991, as well as the unblocking of regional infrastructures, based on the principles of respect for the sovereignty and jurisdiction of countries, reciprocity and equality. In the context of the latter, we reflected on the Crossroads of Peace project submitted by the Armenian government, the implementation of which can radically change the situation in the region. I would like to add that our similar position on the sovereignty and independence of countries, as well as mutual interest in the diversification of regional infrastructures and transport channels, create fertile ground for the intensification of joint work in the above-mentioned direction."
