The National Security Service (NSS) of Armenia informs that as a result of the internal investigation carried out regarding the incident that took place Wednesday in the Nerkin Khndzoresk village section of the Armenia-Azerbaijan state border, it was found that an Armenian military unit soldier, the superior officer performing border guard service in the aforesaid section, being informed about the fact that the shepherd and his flock had gotten lost in the territory of Azerbaijan and that the shepherd had returned to the territory of Armenia, together with that shepherd and several border guards, had tried to cross the state border of Armenia and return the flock, thus violating the rules of border guard service, which inadvertently caused significant damage; that is, unnecessary shooting started in the aforementioned border guard area, people's lives and health were put at risk, the described actions caused a threat to national security, as well as a lack of proper overseeing in the aforementioned area of the state border. As a result of this incident, a soldier of the State Border Service of Azerbaijan was wounded. Expressing regret over the incident, at the same time appropriate measures were taken in order to strictly observe the rules of border guard duty by Armenian servicemen while performing border guard duties and to exclude similar cases. According to the results of the internal investigation, a report about a crime under the relevant article of the Criminal Code of Armenia was submitted to the Investigative Committee of Armenia, where criminal proceedings were initiated, and an investigation is being conducted to ascertain the circumstances of this incident, and to bring the guilty persons to criminal accountability, the NSS informed.
