by Lilit April 8, 2024

On April 8, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan received the delegation of the EU Political and Security Committee. MFA of Armenia reports.  In his welcoming remarks, the Foreign Minister of Armenia commended the process aimed at the significantly deepening of Armenia-EU relations, emphasizing that it includes both the continuous implementation of the Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement, as well as the best use of opportunities beyond it. In the context of the dynamics of the development of relations, the activities of the EU Monitoring Mission in Armenia, as well as the economic component of the development of the Armenia-EU partnership were touched upon. In the context of the latter, Minister Mirzoyan emphasized the opportunities provided by the implementation of the flagship initiatives of the Economic and Investment Plan and the new "Resilience and Growth Plan" for Armenia. Among the important projects, ensuring progress in the direction of launching the Armenia-EU Visa Liberalization dialogue was also mentioned. Recalling the speech of the Prime Minister of Armenia in the European Parliament in December 2023, Minister Mirzoyan added: "The people of the Republic of Armenia have European aspirations, and we will be guided by those aspirations." Touching upon the security issues in the South Caucasus, Ararat Mirzoyan briefed the ambassadors of the EU member states on the latest developments in the normalization process of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Emphasizing Armenia's willingness to use the opportunity to achieve peace, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia noted that this implies reflection of the mutual agreement on key issues in the peace treaty, in particular mutual reaffirmation of territorial integrity and delimitation, based on the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration. In the context of ensuring economic development in the region, Minister Mirzoyan emphasized the importance of unblocking transport and economic communications, recalling the "Crossroads of Peace" initiative developed by the Government of the Republic of Armenia as a manifestation of Armenia's interest in the opening of respective communications. The minister answered the questions of the attendees on the Armenia-EU partnership and Armenia's regional policy. Views were exchanged on other topics of mutual interest.
