In the conditions of the West-Russia confrontation, the meeting in Brussels will lead to that confrontation’s intensification in our region. The third President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, told this to reporters Thursday—and referring to the meeting scheduled in Brussels Friday between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. "In the conditions of this geopolitical situation, such a meeting could be useful for Armenia. But now, when there is such a confrontation between the West and Russia, such a meeting will surely lead to that confrontation’s intensification in our region. Rumors are circulating, the reliability of which I cannot confirm, that they will allegedly promise us money. But in my opinion, Armenia's expectation from that meeting should be to ask the EU and the US to really help to restore the sovereign territory of Armenia, to release our captives and hostages [in Azerbaijan], to restore the rights of Artsakh [(Nagorno-Karabakh)] Armenians. The EU and the US should demand from the ruler of Armenia [i.e. PM Pashinyan] that a real democracy be established in Armenia so that there be no political prisoners in Armenia, that there be a real fight against corruption, and not revenge by selective and illegal means," said Serzh Sargsyan.
