Iran is a country that has repeatedly expressed its concerns regarding Armenia's sovereignty and territorial integrity. But all UN member states should have had this concern, as the UN Charter stipulates respecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of member states. French Ambassador to Armenia Olivier Decottignies stated this in an interview to the Public Television of Armenia. Regarding the remark that the Iranian officials state that the territorial integrity of Armenia is a red line for them and they are ready to counter in case of aggression, and when asked what the West and especially France will do if Azerbaijan resorts to aggression, the ambassador said: "I represent France, which within its capacity can give Armenia the opportunity to protect its people, its territorial integrity and sovereignty. In other words, not to wait for a new military episode to help Armenia. It is for this reason that we [i.e. France] have started cooperation with Armenia in the defense sector. We are the first NATO member country to break the taboo by supplying [military] equipment to Armenia, a CSTO member country. The cooperation refers also to the organizing of trainings for the Armenian military and military advisers in the Defense Ministry of Armenia, both in Armenia and in France. In the defense sector, we support Armenia so that it can defend itself."
