Of course, the situation created in Armenia does not inspire optimism. Frankly speaking, the leadership of Armenia, with fabricated pretexts, distorting the history of the last three years, deliberately leads to the collapse of relations with the Russian Federation, to the defamation of our servicemen serving at the 102nd military base, our border guards, and the Collective Security Treaty Organization in general. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated this in an interview to Izvestia daily. "Nothing is mentioned that it is the CSTO [(Collective Security Treaty Organization)] that has repeatedly defended the interests of Armenia in difficult situations, that it was ready to send its peacekeeping mission to the [Armenian] republic in 2021 to ease the tension in the relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan; moreover, the mandate of that mission was fully agreed upon at the ministerial meeting held in Yerevan in the fall of 2021; we sat until night, confirmed everything, in the morning, when the presidents and prime ministers had already met, [Armenian PM] Mr. [Nikol] Pashinyan said that there is no consensus," Lavrov said. According to the Russian FM, a few days later, Pashinyan invited a European Union (EU) peacekeeping mission to Armenia, promising Azerbaijan that it would be for only two months; but two months later, ignoring Baku, the EU doubled that mission. "And now military personnel from Norway, Canada, and the United States are still being sent there, turning the European Union mission into a North Atlantic Alliance [i.e. NATO] mission. And this entire history of the last few years is being distorted by Mr. Pashinyan, his employees, the leadership of the parliament of Armenian," added the Russian FM.
