An increase in the birth rate of third and subsequent children has been recorded in Armenia. This was announced by Narek Mkrtchyan, Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, during the discussions of the report on the progress and results of the 2023 implementation of the 2021-2026 program of the government at the meeting of the Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs of the National Assembly of Armenia on Thursday. "For example, in 2018, [a total of] 8,271 children belonging to this group were born in Armenian families. In 2022, their number was 11,956, the increase was 44.6 percent," added Mkrtchyan. According to the minister, "the numerical structure of the birth rate" is considerably affected by the measures being implemented by the Armenian government in recent years. Also, he reported that as of December 2023, support was provided to 21,804 children within the framework of the program on financial support for the birth of the third and every subsequent child in the family. This program itself, as the Armenian government member noted, has been in effect since January 2022.
