EU envoy: We already have attracted €60M to develop Armenia’s educational sector

by Lilit March 28, 2024

I am here to show our full support to the Armenian government and its work in the youth sphere. Ambassador Vassilis Maragos, Head of the Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Armenia, stated this at the official opening ceremony of the Gavar: 2024 Youth Capital of Armenia program in Gavar, the capital of Gegharkunik Province, on Thursday. Maragos added that they welcome this idea to have a youth capital every year. He congratulated all residents of Gavar, particularly the young people, on the occasion that Gavar was chosen as this year’s youth capital. He said they work closely both with the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia, the NGOs, and youth NGOs. They have a number of initiatives, they encourage youth activists to create youth centers. In cooperation with the aforesaid ministry, they have already attracted 60 million euros for the developing of the educational sector of Armenia, added the EU ambassador. Youth is the future of Armenia, and recognizing the importance of youth participation in the life of Armenia, they reaffirm their commitment to continue their work in the youth sphere, Maragos said. By cooperating with the aforesaid ministry, they are going to create a youth platform that will help implement the cooperation agreement between Armenia and the EU. And within this framework, they are now working to strengthen Armenia's reforms, democracy, and economy, the EU ambassador said. Vassilis Maragos added that he is ready to visit Gavar several more times during the year to discuss the possible events to be held with the youth.
