Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian foreign ministry, stated this at Wednesday ministry press briefing, commenting on the reports that 3,000 mercenaries of the Wagner Group were in Armenia, and that they, with the help of local forces, are supposed to carry out a coup and depose Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. "Are there [any] photos [to that effect]? Maybe there are videos? On what basis are such statements made? And why only three [thousand mercenaries]? And why not three quadrillion or one and a half people? Where does all this come from? Where are the facts? Where is at least some connection with the place? Where are they if we are talking about such a number of people? It [i.e. Armenia] is not a country with a population of one billion. It is, however, a country with a population not of such proportions. Well, they would probably have seen those people. As they say, they would have found out. What we are talking about is from the realm of another mythology. I can describe it as being done from within. And by the way, I draw attention to the comments by the chair of the [Russian] Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs, Grigory Karasin, which, I quote directly, is very beautiful; he described [it as] ‘bullshit.’ I agree that Grigory Karasin noted that in general there should be numbers, facts, at least something. And the main thing is that 3,000 is not three people; it is not a small group of people that could have perished," Zakharova said.
