The European Union (EU) monitoring mission in Armenia has become a factor of stability on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border. This was stated Friday by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ararat Mirzoyan, during the discussions of the report on the progress and results of the 2023 implementation of the 2021-2026 program of the Armenian government at the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations of the National Assembly. According to him, the EU, as an institution, is taking part for the first time in matters related to Armenia's security. "I consider it important to note that after the deployment of this mission, the tension on the [Armenian] border [with Azerbaijan] has decreased considerably. In fact, it turns out that this mission has become a significant factor of stability on the border," said the Armenian FM. He added that in 2023, the dialogue on political and defense issues started for the first time. Two respective meetings were held in Yerevan and Brussels, in which joint statements were made regarding the situation in the South Caucasus.
