It is known that passport control at Zvartnots International Airport in Yerevan is been carried out exclusively by Armenian law enforcement officers for more than ten years now. Ambassador Dzyunik Aghajanyan stated this in an interview with Armenian News-NEWS.am. "Taking this into account, the demand to withdraw the Russian border guards from the airport means that the arrival of members of certain services from certain countries is expected, which is not desirable for the Russian side to know. It is another question as to what extent this will serve Armenia's security interests and whether it will create new threats for Armenia if hundreds of Western agents arrive here. Will they carry out not only anti-Russian, but also anti-Iranian activities? There are no answers to these questions," added Aghajanyan. In her assessment, Armenia's security sector is gradually coming under the control of NATO, with all the consequences for Russia and Iran, and Azerbaijan is a part of this scenario. Aghajanyan recalled that for two years, Iran has been directly talking about the threats that the Armenian authorities are creating for their country, as well as for the entire Middle East. "Tehran says that the presence of Western forces [in the region] is an existential threat, reminding that the strengthening of NATO means the strengthening of Turkey. The implementation of the so-called ‘Zangezur corridor’ plan will close Iran's access to the north and lead to the loss of the only peaceful sector of the border: the Armenian-Iranian border. Against this background, Iran has already launched steps. It is only thanks to Iran's efforts that large-scale military operations against Armenia have not yet started in an attempt to open the so-called ‘Zangezur corridor.’ It is no coincidence that Tehran keeps a 100,000-strong army near the borders with Armenia and Azerbaijan as a deterrent in case of possible intervention. It is obvious for Iran that the implementation of the Pan-Turkism plan is a threat to national security," Ambassador Dzyunik Aghajanyan stressed.
