News - Armenia Security Council head: We interconnected all our security guarantees with Russia, we had 3 large-scale attacks

At today's meeting with the CC, we discussed the matters of Armenia's economic security; that was the agenda. Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia, Armen Grigoryan, told this to reporters at the National Assembly (NA) Wednesday, after his meeting with the MPs of the ruling majority Civil Contract (CC) Faction in the NA. To the question whether Armenia's economy could suffer losses, in particular, the Upper Lars checkpoint—on the Georgian-Russian border—will be closed by Russia for Armenia amid the latter’s worsening relations with Russia, the secretary of the Security Council of Armenia responded: "So that we don't have such problems in the long term, Armenia is going on the road of diversifying its economy, trying to find new partners. In some places we have success, in some places we don't. Naturally, Armenia knows that the problems you mentioned are possible, and it is diversifying its economy in order to solve them." To the question whether they fear that the deterioration of Armenia’s relations with Russia may cause serious problems in terms of security, and Azerbaijan and Turkey may take advantage of this opportunity, Armen Grigoryan responded: "Let's look at the question from another angle. We [i.e. Armenia] have interconnected all our security guarantees with Russia at least until December 2021; you can even say 100 percent. And we had three large-scale attacks and the occupation of the territory of Armenia  by Azerbaijan. We have had many other problems. Now, under the conditions of these problems, is Armenia to blame that they attacked Armenia? Definitely not. Armenia's allies simply did not help it when it was faced with a security threat. Taking this into account, Armenia has started diversifying and looking for new security guarantees."
