Banking operations’ restrictions deprive Turkey of export earnings

by Lilit March 4, 2024

Turkish companies working in the Russian “direction” are unable to receive their income due to the strict Western restrictions on banking operations with Russia, the Ekonomim newspaper reported. Exporters ask the Turkish authorities to put Russia on the list of 33 countries with which transactions can be carried out outside the banking system; this will enable bypassing the sanctions’ restrictions. Turkish companies cannot close export contracts because banks are returning payments from Russia. Turkish exporters are deprived of the opportunity to receive income from supplies. The sources inform that the "blockade" of Turkish banks by the West is very strict. Economic departments of Turkey are trying to solve this problem. Before that, the US had warned Turkish banks about the need to thoroughly check cross-border remittances from Russia. Ankara, however, does not consider the situation to be catastrophic and hopes for a settlement of the matter.
