News - Honorary President of Iraqi Kurdistan: Armenia president's visit is historic

Within the framework of his official visit to Iraq, Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan met with the Honorary President of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Masoud Barzani, in Erbil, the capital of Iraqi Kurdistan. Welcoming the visit of the President of Armenia to Iraq and Iraqi Kurdistan, Barzani assessed this visit as historic, and emphasized that it will be a positive stimulus in strengthening the friendship and development of relations between the two countries and peoples, the office of the President of Armenia informs Armenian News-NEWS.am. Khachaturyan, for his part, stressed the importance of historical and cultural multi-layered relations between the two peoples—and which is a solid basis for the deepening of continuous cooperation. During the meeting, they discussed the possibilities of promoting steps towards the development of relations between Armenia and Iraqi Kurdistan. Views were exchanged also on the perspectives and specific actions of implementing the existing mutually beneficial cooperation potential. In addition, the interlocutors reflected on several regional and global issues and the ways to resolve them. In this context, both sides emphasized the imperative to resolve conflicts and problems exclusively peacefully, through negotiations, and in compliance with international law and fundamental principles.
