News - Armenia ombudsperson’s office on Azerbaijan shooting: Local residents were scared, in state of uncertainty

On the instruction of the Human Rights Defender (ombudsperson) off Armenia, Anahit Manasyan, an examination was launched Tuesday regarding human rights violations as a result of the actions by Azerbaijani armed forces in the direction of Nerkin Hand village, Armenian News-NEWS.am was informed by the Defender’s office. “As a result of the fire of the Azerbaijani armed forces in the direction of Nerkin Hand, the right to life, to live in a safe environment, to education and other fundamental rights of the civilian population were violated. “The residents told the Defender's staff that the shots were clearly heard, as a result of which they were scared and in a state of uncertainty. “The Defender especially emphasizes that the actions of the armed forces of Azerbaijan represent a real threat from the viewpoint of ensuring the right to life and security of people, education, as well as other fundamental rights. “The work of monitoring and collecting facts related to human rights continues in the Office of the Human Rights Defender,” the office added. Earlier, Armenian News-NEWS.am reported that starting at 5:30am on Tuesday, the units of the Azerbaijani armed forces opened fire—from small arms—in the direction of the Armenian positions located in the Nerkin Hand village sector in Syunik Province. As a result, the Armenian side has four casualties and one wounded. Shooting stopped as of 9:30am.
