News - Peskov: Russia must have certain assurances from Armenian partners before President Putin’s possible visit to Armenia

Before the possible visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Armenia, Russia must have certain assurances from its Armenian partners regarding joining the International Criminal Court (ICC), said Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of the Russian President, RIA Novosti reported. "We [i.e. Armenia] have already said that, of course, the new reality related to Armenia's accession to the international statute cannot but have a negative impact on our bilateral relations. Of course, it is very important here to receive certain assurances from our Armenian partners. That matter still needs to be resolved within the framework of bilateral dialogue, which we are willing to do," Peskov told reporters. Armenia officially became an ICC member on February 1, after the ratification of its Rome Statute in early October 2023. The Russian side, however, had repeatedly stated that it does not approve of Yerevan's plans to ratify this document.
