Azerbaijan president votes in Stepanakert, capital of occupied Karabakh

by Lilit Feb. 7, 2024

The incumbent president of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, voted in Stepanakert, the capital of Azerbaijani-occupied Nagorno-Karabakh, in Wednesday’s snap presidential election. In the brief respective information by the press service of the Azerbaijani president, it was noted only that Aliyev was accompanied by his family members. Seven candidates are running for the office of President of Azerbaijan, but the incumbent and presidential candidate from the ruling party, Ilham Aliyev, is the top contender. Aliyev launched snap presidential elections not long after the Azerbaijani occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh and its complete de-Armenianization.
