Mirzoyan to Netherlands legislators: Armenia's constructive approaches do not always receive proper response (PHOTOS)

by Lilit Feb. 7, 2024

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan on Wednesday met—in The Hague—with the chairman of the Dutch parliament's Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Raymond de Roon, and the committee members representing the majority of parliamentary parties, Armenian News-NEWS.am has learned the Armenian foreign ministry. The FM noted that Armenia is proceeding on the path of democratic reforms, as a result of which the current respective achievements have been reflected in relevant international indicators as well. Touching upon the security situation in the South Caucasus, Mirzoyan informed these Dutch MPs about Armenia's vision and efforts to establish stability and peace in its region. The FM noted, however, that Armenia's constructive approaches do not always receive a proper response, and emphasize the need for Azerbaijan to show appropriate political will and clear commitment in this regard. Also, Mirzoyan stressed the key principles in the process of normalizing Armenia-Azerbaijan relations, including the importance of unconditional respect for territorial integrity and indivisibility of borders. In the context of unblocking regional transport and economic communications, Ararat Mirzoyan noted that the principles of sovereignty, jurisdiction, reciprocity and equality, which are important to Armenia, are best reflected in the Crossroads of Peace project developed by the Armenian government, and that this project was presented and received the attention of international partners. Also, the FM answered the Dutch lawmakers’ questions regarding Armenia’s regional developments, addressing the rights and needs of Armenians forcibly displaced as a result of ethnic cleansing in Nagorno-Karabakh, strengthening the Armenia-EU partnership, and several other matters of mutual interest. At the meeting, the willingness to further deepen cooperation between Armenia and the Netherlands, including at the level of parliamentarians as well as in the Armenia-EU format, was stressed in order to assist stability in the region and ensure the well-being of Armenian citizens.
