The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is providing additional support of $1 million to Armenians forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh, informs the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of Armenia. Thanks to this assistance, 19,300 people displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh will receive primary humanitarian assistance through the USAID-funded Protection, Inclusion and Empowerment Activity Program being implemented by Democracy International. The initiative was officially launched with an event held in Armenia’s capital of Yerevan, during which forcibly displaced persons received food and hygiene items. Anna Zhamakochyan, Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Matthew Laird, Acting Deputy Mission Director of the USAID/Armenia, and Liesbeth Zonneveld, Country Director of Democracy International Armenia, participated in this event. The provision of this assistance started in December 2023, and it will run for six months. Its geographical scope includes Yerevan as well as Ararat, Kotayk, Lori, Shirak, Syunik, and Tavush Provinces. The assistance is provided through a consortium of organizations. The participants of the aforesaid event followed the distribution of these humanitarian parcels, and talked with the beneficiaries in order to get better information about their needs.
