Armenia's Pashinyan: Creation of single energy market will strengthen EAEU countries’ energy security

by Lilit Feb. 2, 2024

Parallel to the discussion of matters of cooperation in the high-tech sector, the interaction domains in which single markets need to be formed are at the focus of our attention. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this during Friday’s meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Almaty, Kazakhstan. "Despite the fact that in 2025 it is planned to start the operation of the single [Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU)] markets of [natural] gas, oil, and petroleum products, today it is obvious that there is no clear joint approach by the member countries from the point of view of the prospects for the construction and development of a single [EAEU] energy market," he noted. But Pashinyan expressed his confidence that the creation of a single energy market will provide a number of key advantages for all EAEU member countries, without exception, contributing to the sustainable development of their economies, increasing the well-being of their population, as well as strengthening their energy security. "Taking this into account, we [i.e. Armenia] believe that our dialogue should be aimed at searching for compromise agreements," concluded the Armenian premier.
