Azerbaijan will try to disrupt, in every way, synchronized with the opposition circles of Armenia and foreign countries, our plan of constitutional changes,. Vahagn Aleksanyan, a member of the ruling majority Civil Contract Faction of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, told this to reporters at the NA Friday. "It's obvious. One has to be a complete idiot to think that if [Azerbaijani president Ilham] Aliyev wants our constitution to be changed, he should declare: ‘I want that constitution to be changed.’ I've already read some of such idiots' comments this morning. It’s about the political arena. It is obvious that if Aliyev wants to disrupt some process in Armenia, he will say that he wants that process in Armenia. It's plain, simple logic. Aliyev is not a stupid person, and he understands al that very well," he said. When asked why the Azerbaijani president will not want Armenia to renounce its declaration of independence or Nagorno-Karabakh, the Armenian ruling force MP responded: "Because it is obvious that Aliyev is trying to keep the instrument of war in his hand and some legitimacy is given to that possible aggression against Armenia by the provisions that he tries to somehow present as territorial claims [by Armenia] against Azerbaijan or Turkey." And to the question whether there is a guarantee that there will be peace if Armenia's constitution is changed, Aleksanyan responded: "If we do not change [it], it is guaranteed that we will definitely not have peace. If we change [it], it is not guaranteed that we will have [peace], but it is also not guaranteed that we will have war."
