Several quakes hit Kyrgyzstan-China border

by Lilit Jan. 26, 2024

Several earthquakes, with a magnitude of up to 5.6, occurred Friday on the Kyrgyzstan-China border, reports the Kyrgyz Institute of Seismology. According to its data, the first tremor, which was recorded at 2:01am local time, was the strongest; its magnitude was 5.6. After that, another series of quakes of 4 to 5 magnitude occurred. And the last seismic activity was recorded at 2:17pm. Seismologists determined that the epicenter of these earthquakes was located in China, near the site of the powerful earthquake of magnitude 7 on January 23. However, all these tremors were felt in Kyrgyzstan, too. There were no casualties or injuries in Kyrgyzstan as a result of these seismic activities, according to the country's ministry of emergencies.
