25,000 turkeys to be killed in Denmark due to bird flu outbreak

by Lilit Jan. 25, 2024

A total of 25 thousand turkeys will be killed in a farm due to the outbreak of bird flu in Denmark’s Zealand island, DR reports. A highly pathogenic bird flu was detected in a farm with 25 thousand turkeys, and therefore the respective service ordered to kill all the birds of the infected population. In addition to killing these birds, a sanitary control zone will be placed around the farm to reduce the risk of this virus spreading. This is the first case of the H5N1 bird flu which was detected in the country in 2024. Bird flu, which also known as avian influenza, is very rarely transmitted to humans, but is fatal to birds.
