Armenia government to help those forcibly displaced from Karabakh to get training, jobs

At Thursday's cabinet meeting, the Armenian government approved the program of providing assistance for the conducting of professional training and gaining work experience for Armenians forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh in 2023. The Minister of Labor and Social Affairs of Armenia, Narek Mkrtchyan, presented this program. "We have entered the phase of implementing medium-term programs for our citizens forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh. And this program has the content of both human capital development and employment programs. The program has three components. The first is professional training, followed by at least three months of mandatory work. In the case of the second, a paid internship, followed by employment for at least three months. And in the case of the third component, professional training, paid internship, and work all together," Mkrtchyan said. In connection with the adoption of this program, it is planned to increase the expenditure of Armenia’s 2024 state budget by 816,150,000 drams. Narek Mkrtchyan noted that this program had already been tested in the case of the participants in the recent Nagorno-Karabakh war. "We have followed for a year, and we have seen that more than 70 percent of the beneficiaries of the program continue to remain in the labor market [of Armenia]," added the minister of labor and social affairs.
