At Thursday's cabinet session of the government, the draft decision was adopted on declaring eminent domain the 17th District of capital Yerevan, as well as the area of the Hayfilm cinema studio, for the construction of the Academic City of Armenia. "The importance and urgency of the Academic City is determined by the need to create an up-to-date environment for quality higher education and research, taking into account the fact that education and research are a prerequisite for sustainable and progressive economic development," it is said in the explanation of the aforementioned draft decision. It is noted that there are plots owned by the state and the community, as well as plots owned by individuals and legal entities in the 17th District, which has been chosen as the main site for the Academic City. To remind, the Armenian government plans to move the universities and scientific institutes to the Academic City, and to create clusters based on them. The German company GMP International Architects and Engineers will draw up the master plan for the construction of the Academic City. And the respective funding will be carried out within the framework of the budget article "renovation of scientific centers," whose total amount is 940 million drams.
