News - Photos of Iran’s new SAIPA pickup released

Photos of the new Iranian SAIPA pickup have been made public, reports Motor.ru. SAIPA, Iran's second largest automaker after Iran Khodro, had announced a 251 badge passenger pickup a few years ago. However, the project has stalled; it was not yet known when the pickup truck will be presented in its homeland, and moreover, the date of the start of deliveries to Russia and Belarus is not clear. But the SAIPA-251 can already be seen in the photos publicized by the Iranian media. The SAIPA-251 is built on the platform of the Saina sedan and Quik hatchback, which in turn are based on the X200, an upgraded version of the 1987 Kia Pride architecture. This new Iranian car will be a pickup with a double cabin and an impressive trunk. The car is made of plastic with its entire perimeter. Also, it has aluminum wheels and two-color rear mirrors. As far as "technology" goes, the SAIPA-251—or the Sephehr, as they initially wanted to call it—will be dual-fuel. It will be powered by an upgraded eight-valve M15 GSI engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission. It has 90 hp on gasoline and 77 hp on compressed natural gas.
