Every year, over one million tourists flock to Wiltshire, UK to visit Stonehenge, The Daily Mail reports. But despite its popularity, the prehistoric monument could soon be dropped from the prestigious list of United Nations World Heritage sites. The High Court heard how Stonehenge is at risk of being delisted if a road tunnel near the project goes ahead. Campaigners fighting the tunnel say the UK government was “irrational” “to give no weight” to the threat by UNESCO, the UN heritage agency over the £1.7 billion scheme. The government has argued that the need for the scheme and its benefits “outweighed the harms,” including the “less than substantial harm to heritage assets.”
