Azerbaijani serviceman Huseyn Akhundov, who killed an Armenian civilian, was welcomed in Azerbaijan as a hero. Lindsey Snell, an internationally known journalist who covers conflicts and their consequences, posted a short video in this regard on X, former Twitter, and wrote as follows: “Huseyn Akhundov, who crossed into Armenia, murdered an Armenian civilian, and recorded a video about ‘spilling Armenian blood’ on his victim's phone is released to a hero's welcome in Azerbaijan.” Huseyn Akhundov was charged under seven articles of the Criminal Code of Armenia. He had illegally crossed the country’s border—and with a weapon, roamed freely in several villages of Syunik Province, threatened a female resident of Sisian city, and, ultimately, killed Hayrapet Meliksetyan, 56, a security guard of the Zangezur Copper Molybdenum Combine. Akhundov was initially sentenced to 20 years in prison, and then recently his sentence was commuted to life imprisonment.
