News - Iran and Syria sign six cooperation agreements

Iran and Syria signed six cooperation agreements during Syrian Prime Minister Hussein Arnous' official visit to Tehran, Tasnim reported. Arnous met with Iranian First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber during his official visit to Tehran on Saturday. During the visit of the Syrian premier, the highest delegation for economic cooperation between Iran and Syria held its 15th session after a long break. The economic session resulted in the signing of six agreements between the two countries, including a free trade agreement and memorandums of understanding on tourism, media, sports, museums and libraries. The two delegations also agreed to open maritime routes and facilitate transportation between the two states. Welcoming the "strategic, close and cordial" relations between Tehran and Damascus, Mokhber expressed Iran's determination to expand economic cooperation with Syria. "The Iranian government and nation have a special respect for Syria and prioritize the tranquility, independence, success and well-being of the Syrian people," the Iranian vice president added. He also pointed to the enemies' disappointment in the face of the Syrian people's resistance, hoping for the complete withdrawal of foreign troops from Syria and the region. For his part, Arnus praised his country's deep-rooted historical and strategic ties with Iran, saying that the Syrian people will never forget the support of the Iranian government and people. He also emphasized the significant role Iran can play in Syria's reconstruction, saying Damascus views Iran as a key partner in the process. The two interlocutors also discussed plans to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people and condemned Israel's military actions in the Gaza Strip.
