News - Alen Simonyan: I don’t rule out that Armenians will go, live in Azerbaijan, Azerbaijanis will come, live in Armenia

Azerbaijan is attempting to put some matters on the agenda that will perhaps artificially make it difficult to sign a peace treaty. Alen Simonyan, speaker of the National Assembly (NA) told this to reporters Thursday in the NA—and referring to the statement by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev that if Armenia wants to include the issues of Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians in the draft of the peace treaty, then the latter should reciprocally refer to the rights of Azerbaijanis deported from Armenia to return and live in Armenia. "I consider it very negative. What we [Armenia] have conveyed and are negotiating, we also know very well, they also know very well. Now talking about it all the time creates artificial problems. It is obvious that if we are really talking about peace, now if Georgians are coming to Armenia to live [in], is there any obstacle? Have we written about it in the treaty with Georgia? Of course, we didn't write [it]. "Time must pass, Azerbaijan must reduce that hate speech [i.e. against Armenians], which they have made something of their ‘brand.’ We cannot be accused of the same thing; on the contrary, our oppositionists accuse that ‘you are taking a step in favor of Azerbaijan, you are more tolerant,’ etc.,” said the Armenian parliament speaker. Also, Simonyan reiterated the point of view he had expressed a few days ago. "Yes, time will pass. I don't rule out that Armenians will go, live in Azerbaijan, some Azerbaijanis will come, live in Armenia, trade with each other. Yes, we are going for peace, there is no other way for peace. The claims that we have fought each other, that is an insoluble problem, for me it is unacceptable. We live in one region, and we should try to solve all the problems," said the speaker of the Armenian legislature.
