The Russian side has a chance to show that it remains faithful to the principles it declared and the documents it signed. Alen Simonyan, speaker of the National Assembly (NA) told this to reporters Thursday in the NA—and answering the question about Russia’s non-delivery of arms purchased by Armenia. "But it will in no way affect Armenia's decision to ensure Armenia's security. If the obligations are not fulfilled, and this is a fact, Armenia must unequivocally protect its interests," added Simonyan. And commenting on Armenia’s non-participation in the CSTO and EAEU sessions, the Armenian NA Speaker said as follows: "I don't see any point in participating because there are unresolved issues, people don't fulfill their obligations. We hear that audacity is sounded only in the direction of Armenia. However, if we look at it since November 9, [2020] the Azerbaijani side has repeatedly shown itself very, very badly as an ally of Russia—starting from killing Russian soldiers to violating agreements. Azerbaijan has done whatever it wanted in our region; Russia either could not or did not respond. The Russian side made a big fuss that Armenia sent humanitarian aid to Ukraine, when Azerbaijan has sent aid many times [to Ukraine], the president of Ukraine has repeatedly thanked the president of Azerbaijan, but we did not hear a single word [about this] from the ‘righteous’ MFA of Russia. The [trilateral] statement of November 9[, 2020] was violated, internal agreements, the returning of [Armenian] captives were violated [by Azerbaijan], but sadly, Russia reacts very painfully in the case of Armenia, whereas in the case of Azerbaijan, in my opinion, it either cannot or pretends not to notice in order to keep the ‘good face’ during a ‘bad game.’"
