It is clear that Russia's reaction is more like it is trying to keep the situation in its own hands, not realizing that it has long since let the situation go. Alen Simonyan, speaker of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, told this to reporters in the NA Thursday—and with respect to the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh. "We have all seen that an [Azerbaijani] attack is taking place against Nagorno-Karabakh from 15 places, whereas the Russian foreign ministry announces that ‘We call on Armenia and Azerbaijan to sit down for negotiations.’ That is, they are dragging Armenia in so that Armenia would react in some way and the right would be reserved to strike back at Armenia," said Simonyan. He emphasized that Russia did not fulfill its functions towards Armenia, both as a partner and as a guarantor—in the region—of the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020. "What did the Russian peacekeepers do in Nagorno-Karabakh? They escorted the [Karabakh] Armenians out? Was that their mission? I am sorry that Russian peacekeepers died in Nagorno-Karabakh. But let's record that they died two to three hours after the end of military actions. The [Russian] peacekeepers have not done anything in Nagorno-Karabakh," said the Armenian legislature speaker. And regarding the remark that the Russian peacekeepers came to Karabakh by the decision of Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan, Alen Simonyan said: "And did you know that the Russian peacekeepers will come and not do anything? No one knew that. I'm sure that even the Russian peacekeepers [themselves] didn't know that they wouldn't be able to work and the Azerbaijanis will just push them out anywhere they want."
