Washington can contribute to the process of normalization of relations between Baku and Yerevan, taking into account the new realities. This was stated by the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, during his talk with James O'Brien, Assistant Secretary at the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs of the US Department of State. "President Ilham Aliyev said that after the end of the conflict and full restoration of Azerbaijan's sovereignty, historic opportunities had arisen for the establishment of peace, noting that the United States could contribute to the process by considering the new realities," reads the statement posted on the official website of the Azerbaijani president. Also, Aliyev noted the role of his country in ensuring Europe's energy security, and pointed to the expansion of partnership between Azerbaijan and the countries of Central Asia. According to him, today "new transport and logistical opportunities had been created in the region along the Middle Corridor." In turn, O'Brien stressed that the United States "supported the peace agenda in the region" and the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. According to him, the US stands ready to host the next Armenian-Azerbaijani talks in Washington.
