News - Armenia legislature head: I don't understand what Azerbaijan delaying  time will give it or to the region

We always see the possibility of escalation [of tension in the region] because there are many examples. For example, a meeting took place at the end of August 2022, and 15 days after that, Azerbaijan started military operations. Alen Simonyan, speaker of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, told this to reporters at the NA Tuesday, and referring to the statement by James O’Brien—Assistant Secretary at the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs of the US Department of State—that Washington will use all tools to prevent the creation of a trade route not in a peaceful way. "We can never rule out anything; and the warning of the US is also aimed at that. Indeed, the Armenian side is ready and going for peace," Simonyan added. And to the question whether a new meeting could be held between Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev with the mediation of the US, the speaker of the Armenian parliament responded as follows: "This is one of the unique matters that I have no information about. I don't understand why Azerbaijan avoids various formats. First they blamed the French, then they blamed Brussels, they refused the format, then they refused Washington. Honestly, I don't understand what that delaying of time will give to Azerbaijan, what it will give to the region. With one hand they talk about peace, with the other they avoid the peace treaty, which can be said is already very close to reality."
