The position of the European Union in Ukraine during the Maidan period was clear. Ukraine faced a very simple choice: if you are not with us, then you are against us. Russian ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin stated this on the air of Sputnik Armenia radio. According to him, the West applies this policy to post-Soviet countries, and, in general, to countries with close ties with Russia. Kopyrkin noted that this approach reflects the real objective of the West, which is not to find ways to develop mutually beneficial cooperation, but to use the situation created after the collapse of the Soviet Union to establish its supremacy in the world. The colonial mentality has not disappeared, it has simply changed, the Russian diplomat noted. "These long-proclaimed principles still operate under the guise of beautiful rhetoric—although this rhetoric is becoming more and more overt. We see this in connection with the South Caucasus, when the American representatives directly define their policy in the context of the fight against Russia and Iran. What is happening in Ukraine is a very cruel lesson. It tells us that the leaders of the countries should really be ready to protect the national interests of their countries," the Russian ambassador added. The lesson of what is happening in Ukraine is that if the social engineering, which has been tested by the West, contradicts the realities of the country, with its culture and the identity of the people, then there will be severe retaliation, the Russian diplomat believes. "The West's attempt to put itself in the place of God ultimately led to the tragedy that the Ukrainian and Russian peoples are now experiencing. This should be a very serious lesson and warning for all of us. World events show that this approach has outlived its usefulness, as it is becoming a threat to the existence of humanity. It is becoming clear to more and more people on Earth that the current world order cannot be maintained, it is extremely dangerous. The situation is volatile in various regions of the world. We are already starting to seriously talk about the threat of the third world war, and some say that it has already started. And it is not Russia that provokes; the consistent policy of the West has led to this situation," said the Russian ambassador to Armenia.
