Within the framework of the new realities emerging in the region, we do not see any obstacles to signing a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Assistant of the president of Azerbaijan, head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Azerbaijani presidential administration, Hikmet Hajiyev, told reporters this, APA reported. "It is difficult to say a word about it yet. We are waiting for clear ideas from Armenia. Armenia is still looking beyond the region when it comes to a peace treaty. What we are saying is that instead of bringing the agenda of third parties here, it is necessary to own the region itself and advance the negotiations on the peace agreement. The ball is currently in Armenia's court," Hajiyev added. At the same time, he placed the "blame" of closing the border with Azerbaijan and Turkey on Armenia. "The conclusion of fraternal Turkiye [(Turkey)] is always that the normalization of relations with Armenia is possible if Armenia stops the occupation of Azerbaijani lands, renounces territorial ambitions from both Turkey and Azerbaijan, and finally comes up with a positive agenda in the region. Azerbaijan and Turkiye have always supported the normalization of relations and always sent positive messages to Armenia. It is clear that Armenia, assessing the potential of the region, should proceed from the approach of resolving problems within the region," Hikmet Hajiyev noted. To note, however, that Turkey had closed its border with Armenia after Azerbaijan had unleashed an aggressive war against Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh.
