Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan on Tuesday received Canadian Senate member Leo Housakos, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia informs Armenian News-NEWS.am. They discussed the political dialogue agenda between Armenia and Canada. FM Mirzoyan noted with satisfaction the positive developments in bilateral relations, as well as the increase of Canada's engagement in Armenia’s region, emphasizing in this context the recent opening of the Canadian embassy in Yerevan and Canada's participation in the EU civilian monitoring mission in Armenia. Both parties stressed the importance of making continue efforts towards the further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Armenia and Canada, and taking into account the existing friendly and valuable ties and in support of the democratic path chosen by Armenia. Views were exchanged also on the security situation in and around the South Caucasus. Ararat Mirzoyan spoke about the efforts being made to establish stability in the region and normalization of Armenia’s relations with Azerbaijan, the current challenges, as well as the measures being taken by the Armenian government to address the needs and rights of Armenians forcibly displaced as a result of the ethnic cleansing of Nagorno-Karabakh by Azerbaijan.
