Frank Pallone, a member of the House of Representatives of the US Congress and Co-Chair of the Congressional Armenian Caucus, has welcomed the passing of the "Armenian Protection Act" bill by the US Senate. “I applaud the Senate for passing the Armenian Protection Act. Now, the House must follow and pass my bipartisan bill, H.R. 5683, which will repeal Section 907 and ban U.S. assistance to Azerbaijan. There must be real consequences for [Azerbaijani president] Aliyev's aggression toward Armenia,” Pallone wrote on X, former Twitter. We reported earlier that the US Senate on Thursday passed the “Armenian Protection Act of 2023” bill introduced by Michigan Senator Gary Peters. This bill aims to block all US military assistance to Azerbaijan by removing President Biden’s authority to waive Section 907 of the FREEDOM Support Act for Fiscal Years 2024 and 2025. Every year since 2002, the US Congress has given the White House the opportunity to waive Section 907 of the FREEDOM Support Act. Section 907 was enacted in 1992 and plans to limit direct US aid to Azerbaijan until the latter takes concrete steps to end its blockades and attacks against Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh.
