The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia has suspended, under the pretext of the need to conduct an expertise study of education materials, the distribution of Russian-language textbooks donated by Russia to schools in Armenia. Yury Vorobiev, Deputy Speaker of the Russian Federation Council, wrote this on Telegram Thursday. According to him, on the initiative of the National Assembly of Armenia, as a result of the repeated petitions by Armenian MPs at the meetings of the Russian-Armenian interparliamentary commission, and with the direct support by the leadership of the Russian Federation Council, the Russian side managed to find additional budget funds for the purchase of more than 50 thousand textbooks to donate to Armenia’s schools teaching Russian. "On November 11, textbooks were delivered to Armenia, and their distribution began in schools where they are in great demand. "I was very surprised when I learned that the Ministry of Education and Science of Armenia has suspended this process. The fact that our Armenian colleagues themselves sent us a specific list of necessary textbooks is especially strange. "It is a pity that the ordinary boys and girls of our fraternal Armenian people are the first to suffer from such short-sighted political intrigues," Vorobiev noted. He added that in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, the Russian delegation raised this matter with the deputy speaker of the Armenian parliament, and expressed hope that all obstacles in this regard will be removed in the near future.
