Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan on Wednesday met with the European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi, in Brussels, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia informs Armenian News-NEWS.am. They discussed the matters on the comprehensive agenda of Armenia-EU partnership. The interlocutors exchanged views on the possibilities of expanding the existing dialogue and cooperation in domains of mutual interest. In this context, the holding of the second high-level Armenia-EU Political and Security Dialogue in Brussels on Wednesday was also highlighted. In order to develop trade and economic relations between Armenia and the EU, the effective implementation of leading initiatives worth 2.6 billion euros for Armenia within the framework of the EU economic and investment plan was emphasized. From the point of view of ensuring the effectiveness of regional programs, FM Mirzoyan stressed the importance of Armenia joining the Black Sea electric cable project, in line with the October joint statement of the Prime Minister of Armenia and the President of the European Commission. Also, Mirzoyan presented Armenia’s "Crossroads of Peace" project, which can not only provide economic advantages to the countries of the region, but also become an important guarantee of peace. Reference was made also to the international efforts towards the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and the European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement discussed as well the addressing of the needs and rights of more than 100,000 Armenian refugees forcibly displaced by Azerbaijan as a result of its ethnic cleansing in Nagorno-Karabakh, including the steps being taken with the support of Armenia’s international partners.
