The times are historic because we are facing the need to reassess the functional significance of our state and statehood. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this in his remarks Thursday during the debates on the 2024 state budget draft in the National Assembly of Armenia. According to Pashinyan, the result of the reassessment of that functional significance should be the following: "Armenia is not a bridgehead or an outpost for implementing plans developed outside its borders, but a means to ensure the safety, well-being, freedom, and happiness of its own citizens. The state should be guided exclusively by the logic of achieving those objectives." Pashinyan noted that the pinnacle of the system of Armenia's national interests is the country’s economic development. "The reform of the education sector, for example, is in that context. In the last five years, we have ensured 28 percent economic growth in Armenia. This is a huge number that has considerably increased the potential of our economy. But in order to use that potential, the reforms being implemented in the field of professional education, higher education, and science of the republic are necessary," said the PM.
