Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan on Wednesday met with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, in Brussels. As a continuation of the discussion with the Prime Minister of Armenia in October, Mirzoyan and Metsola exchanged views on the main directions of the Armenia-EU comprehensive partnership agenda and the joint efforts aimed at deepening it, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia informs Armenian News-NEWS.am. Both sides expressed willingness to launch additional steps towards expanding the interaction between the European Parliament and the National Assembly of Armenia. Lauding the principled position expressed by the European Parliament and its adoption of resolutions on matters of the greatest importance for Armenia, FM Mirzoyan emphasized the importance of continuous strong support for democracy in Armenia and real efforts to establish peace in the country’s region. Reflecting on Armenia's approaches in this regard, Mirzoyan stressed that it will be possible to achieve peace in the country’s region if there is active engagement by international partners and Azerbaijan's commitment to the principles reaffirmed by the statement adopted in Granada, Spain in October. Emphasis was placed on the exclusion of force or the threat of force and the implementation of projects such as the "Crossroads of Peace" presented by the Armenian government. Also, the Armenian FM briefed the President of the European Parliament on the steps aimed at addressing the urgent needs and rights of more than 100,000 Armenian refugees who were forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh and took refuge in Armenia as a result of the ten-month-long blockade by Azerbaijan and its military attack on September 19.
