An Azerbaijani citizen was detained in Georgia on charges of membership in the ISIS terrorist organization, Azerbaijani media outlets report, with reference to Mtavari Arkhi TV channel. It is reported that one of the two foreigners detained yesterday by Counter-Terrorism Center of Georgia’s State Security Service on suspicion of ties to the terrorist organization ISIS is a citizen of Azerbaijan, and the other is a citizen of Russia.According to the State Security Service, they were detained on the grounds of facilitating unauthorized transportation of a migrant through Georgia to another country and for aiding the individual's stay within Georgia. The lawyer of the detainees, Ani Sishniashvili, stated that the State Security Service allegedly failed to obtain evidence. The investigation is being conducted on the basis of Article 236 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (illegal purchase, storage and carrying of firearms and explosives). Earlier, the Novosti-Georgia agency reported that the Counter-Terrorism Center of Georgia’s State Security Service announced the detention of two foreign citizens during an investigation into the case of illegal transportation of migrants.The special operation took place simultaneously in two locations in Tbilisi. During the search, explosives and improvised explosive devices, electronic means of transmitting information, stun guns, fake foreign passports and a flag with the symbols of the “Islamic State” terrorist organization were seized.
