Most of the casualties were killed in one day when Hamas militants crossed the border and attacked Israeli civilians. According to the Palestinian ministry of health, at least 1,537 Palestinians were killed and another 6,612 were injured in Gaza. At least 36 people were killed and more than 650 were injured in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
