If Moscow's mediation regarding the normalization of relations between Baku and Yerevan is rejected by the Armenian side, the alternative may be direct negotiations between the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia, said Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev. "On October 12, at the suggestion of the Russian side, a meeting of the foreign ministers of Russia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia was supposed to take place in Bishkek [the capital of Kyrgyzstan]. We [Azerbaijan] perceive the mediation of the Russian Federation with gratitude, as Russia, our neighbor and ally, as well as the ally of Armenia, is located in our region—unlike those who are thousands of kilometers away. We perceived this proposal positively, and our foreign minister is ready to meet with [his] Russian and Armenian colleagues. Unfortunately, the Armenian side declined from that meeting. And now a question rises: Does Armenia want peace? I think not because if it wanted peace, it would not have rejected that opportunity. The Prime minister of Armenia flies to Granada [Spain] for 6 hours, participates there in an incomprehensible meeting where Azerbaijan is discussed without Azerbaijan, but he cannot fly to Bishkek for 2-3 hours? He has important work to do?" the president of Azerbaijan noted. Aliyev assured that Baku is ready to "continue working towards the peace treaty" with Yerevan. "If the Armenian side rejects the mediation of the Russian Federation, I believe the direct negotiations between the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia can be an alternative. We will consider any other platform by taking into account the attitude of the countries that offer their services not to Azerbaijan, but to the truth of international law," the Azerbaijani president said.
